Deforestation

The act of cutting or burning the trees in a particular area is known as deforestation. The rate of deforestation is high in most countries of the world. There are several major causes of deforestation. Conservation of forest into agricultural land is one of them. Massive forest areas are converted into agricultural land by clearing them in order to fulfil the increasing demands of inhabitants. Moreover, tribal communities carry shifting cultivation in forested regions contributes to deforestation. Forests are cleared by chopping the trees or by burning them. After carrying such cultivation for couple of years, they leave the place and shift to the other part of the forest to start the same kind of cultivation. Due to mining, large areas of forest have been cleared and converted into infertile lands. One of the other important causes of deforestation is the increasing demand of timber for domestic and profitable reasons. With the increase in urbanization and industrialization, further damage has been done to the forests in different parts of the world. Forest areas are devastated due to both manmade and natural fires. Atmospheric lightning causes natural fire destroying thousands of trees in the forest. Men for their selfish reasons burn forests and grasslands. Industries that are wholly dependent on forests are also liable for deforestation. Forests are demolished to construct roads in hilly areas to attract more and more tourists. To increase tourist activities and gain economic advantages, forests are cut down to build hotels and guesthouses. The only way to control deforestation is by creating an awareness of how important the trees are to our planet. Planting more and more trees and conducting campaigns against deforestation are some ways to control this problem. We all must come together and contribute towards making the environment tree-friendly.
