How was the Grand Canyon created?
The Grand Canyon was made by the Colorado River. The waters of the river cut the great gorge in a process that took thousands of years. The process continues even today. The Grand Canyon was discovered first in 1540 by a Spanish explorer, Garcia Lopez de Cardenas. In some places, the gorge of the Grand Canyon is over a mile in depth while it is 4 to 18 miles in width. The Grand Canyon is one of the grandest spectacles in the world.
