Green Oscar for hornbill conservator
The Whitley Award, an international nature conservation prize worth Rs 30 lakhs, was conferred on India’s Aparajita Datta by Princess Anne at an award ceremony held at the Royal Geographical Society in May 2013. Datta was honoured for her work to protect the endangered hornbill in the Arunachal Pradesh forests. She intends to use the prize money to identify hornbill nests across the country, in order to protect them from being hunted and poached.
