Gargoti – the mineral museum
A treasure trove of precious/ semi-precious minerals and stones has been recreated on land at the Gargoti museum in Nashik. The soft lighting lends an eerie glow to the giant-sized ‘half-coconuts’ of gleaming semi-precious stones in their natural form.
Apart from a wonderful display of gargotis’, or stones worn smooth and round/oval from being in the water for long, there is a mind-boggling display of lapis, malachite, green, red, and black onyx, agate, and a host of other minerals.
Also on display are moon rocks that were brought back on Apollo 11 by Neil Armstrong in 1969.
