Who found the first dinosaur bones?
Discoveries of dinosaur bones were made hundreds of years ago. Georges Cuvier in 1822 held that they belonged to giant reptiles. William Buckland named the first dinosaur, Megalosaurus, meaning big lizard, in 1824. It was in 1842, that they began to be called dinosaurs meaning terrible lizards. It was Orchard Owen who named them so.
