Tagore translations in Lithuanian
A Lithuanian traveller, explorer and anthropologist, Antanas Poska travelled to India on a motorbike all the way from Vilnius, in Lithuania, in 1929! In the course of his stay in India, Poska became an ardent fan of Rabindranath Tagore and reportedly met him twice. On his return to Lithuania after a couple of years, Poska translated some of Tagore’s poetry into Lithuanianthe first Indian literary works to be translated into the language. In a rare honour, the University of Kolkata conferred a posthumous doctorate on Poska on November 28, 2014.
