Autobiography of A Television

I am a colour television at Mishti’s home. I sit in one corner of her living room. She leaves me permanently connected to an electricity socket and uses a cordless remote to switch me on/off. I receive moving images in colour accompanied by sound. What I display on my screen is determined by the channel she selects on the remote, as also the intensity of sound through another volume button on the remote in her hand. She is a very naughty girl and keeps oil troubling me by frequently fiddling with channel and volume buttons. It gives me lots of jolts and wobbles every time she tinkers. I feel twitching pain but keep my mouth shut, as I immensely liked her. Although she views entertainment programmes only such as Tom and Jerry, she is so mischievous that does not let her parents see the news easily.

I feel a sigh of relief when she is off to her school.
