It is a matter of great concern for developed countries, that racism is present even in the 21st century. It questions not only the integrity of the country but also casts an ugly shadow on the working of the government. Racism is not something new or something that has come up recently. It has existed since time immemorial. America has experienced the worst outcome of racist attacks ever since blacks were considered to be untouchables and were treated as slaves by the whites. The high-low, black-white debate seems to be still fresh in this changing good-bad world. In India, racism in the form of caste discrimination has existed from ancient fines.

Racial discrimination is on the news almost every day. Indians are being racially discriminated against in most parts of the world. News about Indian students being assaulted in Australia, Canada and other parts of the world are coming out frequently. There are political agendas and committees that are being formed to tackle the issue of racial discrimination against Indians abroad. But what about cleaning our own home? What about the issues of racial discrimination within India?

Racial discrimination means to treat a person differently based on his race, appearance or colour rather than capability. India is no stranger to racial discrimination; our people from different states cannot go to other states for betterment in fear of being discriminated against. The most popular of the people who are discriminated against are our brethren from the north-east. Due to their mongoloid features, they are called by many derogatory terms. Similarly, when a person from the south of India conies to the North they are discriminated on the basis of their colour and language. people should be sensitized to racial discrimination in any form. In the dawn of the 21st century, people should stand united and make the world a global village, multiculturalism should be incorporated at the political level and everyone should be judged on their capabilities alone.
