How is copper obtained from ore?

Copper is found in nature in two forms—native copper or the metal itself or in mineral ore, where it is combined with other elements. Copper ore is refined to get copper. The ore is crushed and washed in flotation tanks. The metallic particles cling to the froth atop the water. Then the ore is roasted to burn out sulphur after which the remaining ore is melted and chemically treated. Lastly, it is transferred to a converter where the remaining impurities are burnt away.
