The largest church in Asia

The largest church in Asia is the Sé Catedral de Santa Catarina, built by the Portuguese in Goa. It was constructed to mark the victory of the Portuguese under Afonso de Albuquerque, over a Hindu king, which led to the capture of Goa in 1510. Since it happened to be the Feast of St Catherine that day, the cathedral was dedicated to her. The enlargement of the Church was commissioned by the then governor, George Cabral, in 1552. But the actual construction of the church took place during the reign of King Dom Sebastiao, and was completed in 1619. The church was consecrated in 1640.
