Fast Food

Food which is prepared and ready to be eaten in minutes is called as fast food. Items on the menu are made from processed ingredients prepared at a central supply facility and then shipped to individual outlets where they are either reheated in a microwave or deep-fried in a matter of minutes. Not only does this ensure that the quality of food is consistent but it also ensures that the food gets to the consumer in record time.

Fast food is convenient. There are fast food joints at every corner, making it very easy to just stop round the corner on the way to or from work. Some fast food outlets have a “drive—through” service which allows the customers to order and pick up food whilst sitting in the comfort of their car. Fast-food joints cash in on the laziness and the busyness of the common man. People eat fast food because it is cheap, tasty and convenient.

Fast food is radically changing the way people eat all over the world. Increasingly, wholesome dinners eaten at the dining table are being replaced by fast food that is eaten out of cartons whilst watching television. Traditional diets made from whole foods are slowly and surely being replaced by pop, burgers, fries and other highly processed and standardized items that are high in fat, salt and sugar encouraging obesity related diseases like diabetes, arthritis and other chronic illnesses.

Fast food is here to stay. Already, we are a generation of adults practically raised on Pepsi or Coke. Is it a surprise then that we have more cavities than we have good teeth? Being moderate is the key. Fast food is fun and very tasty and if eaten less frequently it will not affect our health adversely.
