Waste paper is otherwise sent for accumulation of landfill. Landfill sites produce gases poisonous to living beings. Thus recycling benefits are two-fold. Firstly, less timber is required for the shortened virgin paper requirement. And secondly, the lesser amount of waste paper goes to the landfill.
