What Do You Know About The System Of Breathing Of Fish?
The fish were already swimming about in the oceans long before man appeared on the earth. It was long ‘hundreds of thousands of years ago. The fish were the highly developed form of life in existence at that time. The fish was the first animal to appear with a backbone. The fish have developed in a number of ways. There is hardly a fish in present times to resemble its shape in the primitive period.
In general, the fish are long and tapering in shape. In the construction of ships and submarines, its shape has been copied by man. For cutting through water this is the best stage.
Most fish use their tails as powerful engines and guide themselves with fins and tails. All fish breathe by means of their gills. The sole exception to this is the “lungfish”. A fish admits water through the mouth. The water flows over the gills and out its moves through the opening behind the covers of the gills. The fish obtains oxygen for the purification of blood from this water, like the human beings taking oxygen from the air for purifying the blood.
Fish attempt to breathe in the air by coming to the top, should water be contaminated sometime. The fish gills are not suited for taking this oxygen from the air. The blood of fish in cold. They have a nervous system like other animals and feel pain. They have a keen sense of touch. The taste as well as feels through the skin.
The fish have smelling power too. The two smell organs are situated in the nostrils on the head. They have ears located inside the head and are called internal ears. The underneath of fish is light-colored while on top the fish are generally dark in color. It is this property that helps them evade enemy attacks. Seen from the top they look green like sea bottom and appear light like water surface from the bottom. There are more than 20,000 different kinds of fish and they live in their own ways.
