The Pros And Cons Of Working In A Call Center
A look at the dailies will ascertain that the maximum job opportunities available in India today are for individuals aspiring to be call center executives. A call center is an office where a company’s out bound calls are made or inbound calls are received. It serves as a centralized customer service unit and may also provide customer support. A common misunderstanding is that it’s easy to work at a call center. While the job might appear to be simple, it isn’t easy to sit endlessly on a chair speaking about the same issues over and over again and maintaining your calm even when being verbally abused by the caller. While it doesn’t seem as tough as making door to door sales calls in the scorching heat and chilly winter, tele-marketing can be mentally very taxing.
In favor of the call center, it does provide a very youthful atmosphere. Employees get to sit in air-conditioned offices all day long. A twelfth grade certification will get one in and the perks are better if one is a graduate. Most American call centers in Asia work during the night because of the time difference, making it possible for those who are attending college to also work. A lot of games and contests are held to boost the employee morale. Climbing up the ladder in a call center is easily possible if ones work speaks for itself.
Whether one is taking care of customer complaints or giving customer support, one will have to deal with people. Some of these people are sometimes very rude and its very difficult to deal with that especially when you are trying to help. The job is mostly repetitive and can get to be a drudgery. There are only finite possibilities and the call center timings which oppose the normal circadian rhythm make it difficult for the call centre executives to rest and they end up suffering from insomnia. They begin to binge to keep themselves awake at odd hours and end up being obese.
The call centers have provided work opportunities to thousands of kids in developing countries who might have been unemployed otherwise. An empty mind is the devil’s workshop hence a job in the call center with its pros and cons is better than being unemployed.
