The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Rules The -World
A priest of the highest rank in the Roman Catholic Church once said, “Give us the children until they are seven years old, and you can keep them for the rest of their lives.” He meant that the first seven years of a man’s life are easily affected and influenced by good or bad things. The teaching and training he receives as a young child will never be forgotten. In his early years if he is brought up in a certain religion, he will follow that religion for the rest of his life.
There is no doubt that the impressions made on the nature of a child in his early years are not easily forgotten. They have a great deal to do with developing his personality, character and opinions for the rest of the years.
Certainly, the mother has the greatest influence on the child. The child is with its mother all the time. The mother feeds it and cares for it in childhood. It learns its first lessons at its mother’s laps. Most of its early ethical training is given by the mother. In some cases, the father is away from home for his work. Although he has to take his share in the training of the child, sometimes his influence is not as great as the influence of the mother.
The behaviour, nature and personality of the child and what it does in the world as a man or a woman is largely determined by what the mother did for them when they were small. She indirectly through them manages their fortune. Thus, it is her hand that rocks the cradle, and it is her hand that indirectly rules the world.
This is true whether the influence of the mother is good or bad. There are foolish and uncaring, as well as good and wise, mothers. The future of any nation and the future of the youth belonging to the growing generation depend on the character and training of the mothers.
It is therefore a matter of highest importance that girls should be educated so that they become fit for their important task during their motherhood years of life. This is one of the strongest arguments for the appropriate education of women. Thus, no nation can be really strong and progressive whose women are ignorant and unaware of their duties in society.
