Lunch Break

My school has lunch break at twelve sharp. By eleven thirty, I am looking at the clock and wondering what mom has packed for lunch. Lunch break lasts for one hour.

Raj, Madhur and Hemani have lunch together. Raj’s mom gives him different roti wraps for lunch, while Madhur’s mom makes soft rice pancakes which resemble little handkerchiefs and Hemani’s mom sends sandwiches with colourful fillings. My mom bakes wonderful cakes. Sometimes there will be coconut cake, sometimes a bundt cake and sometimes my favourite chocolate walnut.

Lunch is finished in fifteen minutes and then we are off to the playground to play. Some days we play limited over cricket and on others we play lagori or catch ball. When there is a test after lunch, you will find most students studying during the lunch break. When the bell rings after lunch break we unwillingly drag our feet back to class.
