Chauvinism
Chauvinism is a term most people associate with MCP or Male Chauvinistic Pig! This abbreviation is used to describe men who celebrate their superiority over the female, who are often referred to as the weaker sex. In other words, an excessive or prejudiced support or loyalty towards one’s cause, group or sex is Chauvinism.
Nicolas Chauvin, a Napoleonic veteran, was noted for his extreme patriotism and it is in his memory that this word originated. Chauvinism meant an exaggerated or aggressive patriotism. Today, it is less known for its original meaning. Male Chauvinism or Feminism are very strong and opposing schools of thought in support of their respective genders and their stand. Feminism takes on an aggressive and rebellious stand in an effort to break the shackles of oppression and suppression, for which it is applauded. Male Chauvinism is seen in negative light. Machismo is pass with women, especially when it keeps them from liberation in thought, speech and action.
In the 21′ century, women walk shoulder to shoulder with men in every walk of life despite being weaker physically. This effort is appreciable. The macho male is now reduced to a glorified Hero in movies and books. Reality demands a man to be broad minded and accepting of a woman as an equal. Majority of women still remain in the shadows of dominating men but chauvinism is on its way out. Chauvinism, either male or female brings about friction when exaggerated and is not conducive to peace and harmony.
