Our Duties in The Constitution
A citizen of India means a legal resident of the Republic of India. Our Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950. As a citizen, you enjoy full civil and political rights. While you enjoy the rights, you also have certain duties to perform towards your country. The Constitution prescribes a set of Fundamental Duties for all citizens of India. They are:
- To abide by the constitution and respect its ideals and institutions,
- To respect the National Flag and National Anthem,
- To realize and follow the essential ideals of non-violence, democracy, and secularism, and
- To preserve our rich cultural heritage, sovereignty, unity, and integrity.
Besides these, there are many other duties like protection of public property and natural resources, avoiding antisocial activities, maintaining the public places clean, helping the underprivileged & needy segments of the society, and all such acts which lend a hand in maintaining peace and harmony in the country.
