Gold throne

The opulence and grandeur of the Mysore palace are legendary. But the one thing that stays indelibly etched in memory is the view of the solid gold throne. Unreal as it seems in today’s world, the jewel-studded, 200 kg gold throne of the Wodeyar dynasty can be seen in the Durbar Hall of the royal palace in Mysore. There is also the king’s “howdah” or wooden seat on the elephant’s back, that belongs to the erstwhile Wodeyar rajas, and is decorated with 84 kg of gold!
