Dance without any musical instruments

Hikkat, a dance from Kashmir, is performed without any musical instruments. The dancers talk of their relationships within the family as they move. Hikkat is a modified version of the games the boys and girls played as children. The dancers are called Natio.

The couples face each other, join their feet together and go round and round. The rounds made by the couples are made in a precise manner and gain momentum with each circle completed. The dance is vigorous and exhilarating not just for the dancers but the audience as well. Hikkat is performed on auspicious occasions like marriages.
